Foundational
Supplements –
Supplements
have been hyped in magazines, on the internet and on TV – there are
so many of them. It can become very confusing on which ones you really
need and which ones really help. The choice of supplements can
depend on individual circumstances but here are some supplements that
can benefit everyone. These will provide foundational support that we
are likely not receiving enough of in our foods we consume. Foods are
lacking vital phytochemicals, minerals, vitamins and essential
nutrients. Below are the basic foundational supplements needed for
survival and disease prevention.

Liquid B-12 – get the one that includes both adenosylcobalamin and methylcobalamin. This blend will help with neurological ailments, anxiety, panic attacks and will help strengthen the immune system. Another option is the Vegansafe Liquid B-12.

Zinc – try to get Zinc Sulfate in liquid. Zinc Picolinate - from Pure Encapsulations is another good choice if you don't like liquid zinc sulfate. Adequate levels of zinc can prevent most diseases. This is the number one deficiency that we have today as depletion of zinc from our soils has taken it out of our food supply. Avoid liquid zincs with citric acid and alcohol – be sure to read the labels before purchasing.

EPA/DHA – (eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid) – do not purchase the fish products but find the plant based EPA/DHA. These omegas help improve the liver’s personalized immune system by keeping toxic plaque and debris from sticking to the walls of the hepatic veins, hepatic artery and hepatic portal vein which will help with blood flow into and out of liver – this in turn protects the heart.

Probiotics – not all probiotics are created equal – you may have to experiment to find one that helps you the most. Mary Ruth's brand is a great choice. Try to get multi-strain with a minimum of 10 billion CFU. We also get probiotics when we eat fresh produce from the garden… see “elevated biotics” section.

Spirulina – instead of purchasing a multi-vitamin – try spirulina as it is so rich in bioavailable nutrients. Spirulina is so much better than ANY multi-vitamin period. It beats ALL pre-natal vitamins. Take 2 teaspoons daily.

Nettle – Loaded with phytochemicals that your body needs. It really helps with inflammation as most people experience today from toxins in their body. Nettle is actually an adaptogenic herb – helps to stabilize the body and promotes homeostasis and are terrific for the endocrine system.
