What
exactly is a Herxheimer Effect and who is at risk?
It is actually called the
Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction
– this is a reaction
caused by the toxins resulting
from dying pathogens like
viruses, bacteria, fungus or parasites that
overwhelm the liver and enter the blood.

Pathogens release their toxins faster than the liver can neutralize them and send them to the kidneys or colon to be flushed out.

The toxins overwhelm the body’s abilities to effectively clear them out. They can be recirculated in the blood or re-insulated in the liver. The liver attempts to neutralize the toxins so they can no longer irritate tissue, muscles and nerves – and cause inflammation – but when the liver is sluggish – overworked – it may not be capable of keeping up.

The liver will do everything it can to insulate as many toxins as possible but when it is is full it must eject some directly in the blood and this can cause the immune system to react causing inflammation throughout the body.

Toxins are typically excreted through the kidneys or the colon.

Common symptoms of die off are: fatigue, fever, chills, headaches, muscles aches, brain fog, excess mucus, skin rashes or discolorations of the skin and intestinal distress such as diarrhea or constipation.

Changes in diet such as going from processed foods to eating fruit, vegetables and leafy greens can cause die off as you are not only starving pathogens to death but fruit is a direct killer.

Other causes of die off is consuming anti-pathogenic herbs, supplements or antibiotics or other medicines that kill microbes.

***Chemotherapy can cause a Herxheimer reactions and has killed many. Pathogens such as some strains of viruses contain potent neurotoxins – it is best to slowly kill them off to prevent the toxins from poisoning your body. Chemotherapy is poison itself – and when that poison kills viruses and bacteria – the result is much more poison and toxins in the body. The liver cannot keep up and floods the bloodstream with poison and the result is a Herxheimer reaction that kills. This especially occurs in those who have weaker immune systems in the first place. Anyone with a weak immune system is at risk when being administered chemotherapy.
